30 recalls across 12 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 has 30 recalls spanning 2010 through 2021, with the most serious recent issue being a steering rack defect on 2017–2019 models where the rack can fail and leave the driver unable to steer the vehicle.
On the drivetrain side, 2015–2017 models have a rear axle differential mounting flange that can fracture under hard acceleration, potentially causing the driveshaft to fail and the vehicle to lose drive power. The 2021 model year has a separate fuel pump that can shut down without warning, also cutting drive power. A fuel injector seal on 2020 models can leak fuel near hot engine components, raising the risk of an engine fire.
Several recalls from the 2017–2021 era involve occupant protection. On 2021 cabriolet models, rear headrests may be incorrectly mounted and can detach in a crash. The 2021 model year also has a recall where front seatbelt pretensioners and airbags may not perform correctly in a crash. On 2020 models, seats may have been assembled incorrectly and fail to restrain an occupant. The 2017–2018 model years have front seatbacks that may not lock properly on the right side, allowing them to fold forward in a crash. The 2018 model year has a passenger seat sensor that can incorrectly show the airbag as active when it is not, leaving a front passenger unprotected without knowing it. Also on 2018 models, the rear window can detach and become a road hazard.
The 2015–2020 model years have two related body panel issues: an adhesive bonding problem that can allow the front roof panel between the windshield and panoramic sunroof to separate from the vehicle, and a follow-up recall covering vehicles where a prior repair may have introduced the same bonding problem. On 2017–2018 cabriolet models, the rear beltline trim can also separate while driving. The 2019–2020 model years have an electronic stability control software error that can cause the system to react incorrectly to driving conditions. The 2019 model year has a radar-based automatic emergency braking system that may fail to apply braking as expected. On 2012 models, a driver airbag can deploy without warning while driving.
The Takata airbag inflator recalls cover 2010–2015 model years. On these vehicles, the front passenger airbag inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, with serious injury or death as a possible result. A follow-up recall also covers 2012 models where an incorrect replacement inflator may have been installed during an earlier repair, meaning the prior fix may not have resolved the hazard. The 2013 model year has a steering coupling bolt that may not have been tightened sufficiently, which can result in a complete loss of steering. Going back to 2012–2014 models, a separate recall addresses incorrect airbag assemblies installed during prior repairs that may not deploy properly in a crash.
The 2019–2021 model years have a rearview camera software error that can cause the display to go blank while reversing. Multiple overlapping recalls from 2017–2021 cover the emergency call system, which can either transmit an incorrect vehicle location or fail to connect entirely after a crash. On 2019–2020 models, LED headlights may have been incorrectly aimed during a dealer repair, reducing forward visibility. The 2017–2
