The 2023 Mercedes-Benz AMG E53 has 5 recalls, the most serious being two separate fire risks: a loose 48-volt ground cable in the engine compartment that can overheat, and a transmission wiring harness that can short-circuit.
The transmission wiring issue is worth noting in particular because it stems from incorrect wiring that may have occurred either during production or during a prior recall repair, meaning some vehicles that were already serviced may still be affected. On the fuel system side, two recalls cover the same underlying problem: the fuel pump can shut down without warning, cutting drive power while the vehicle is in motion and leaving the driver without the ability to accelerate out of a hazard. There is also a driver assistance concern: a software error can cause the exit warning system to stay silent and dark when a cyclist or vehicle is approaching from behind as an occupant opens a door, removing the audio and visual alerts the system is designed to provide.
