15 recalls across 5 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT63 has 15 recalls covering 2019 through 2023 model years, with the most serious being a wiring defect on 2019-2021 vehicles where the starter motor positive cable can chafe against the power supply harness, causing a short circuit that can stall the engine or start a fire.
On 2023 models, the fuel pump can shut down without warning, cutting drive power while the vehicle is moving. The 2019 model year carries several additional fire and stall risks: the turbocharger oil feed line can leak onto hot engine or exhaust components, a fuel injector leak creates a similar fire exposure, and a transmission wiring harness that rubs against the driveshaft can cause an engine stall.
Crash protection issues span several years. On 2019 models, the pre-safe system and seatbelt pretensioners may not deploy in a crash, reducing occupant protection. On 2021 models, airbags and seatbelts may similarly fail to perform correctly in a crash, and rear seatbelt retractors can deactivate early, preventing a child safety seat from locking in place. On 2020 models, the left-rear seatback latch may not hold under load in a crash, allowing cargo to intrude into the passenger area.
The 2019-2020 model years have an electronic stability control software error that can cause the system to respond incorrectly to driving situations. Those same years also have wheel hub caps that can detach at speed and become a hazard for other vehicles.
On the electronics side, 2021 models have a multimedia software issue that can cause the backup camera display to go black or reboot, removing rear visibility when reversing. The emergency call system on 2019-2021 vehicles can report an incorrect vehicle location after a crash, and 2020 models have a separate issue where the emergency location system may also send responders to the wrong place.
