19 recalls across 11 model years
The Mercedes-Benz E350 has 19 recalls covering 2006 through 2016, with the most serious recent issue being a loss of electric power steering assist on 2014-2016 models where a control unit pin connection failure can leave the driver with significantly heavier steering and reduced ability to control the vehicle.
Several recalls on 2012-2016 models involve the airbag system. A software fault on 2012-2016 vehicles can prevent airbags from deploying correctly in a crash. Separately from the software issue, the driver airbag on 2012-2016 models can deploy without warning while driving. On 2013-2016 models, a software fault in the emergency call system can transmit an inaccurate vehicle location to emergency responders. The 2016 model year has a rubber hood seal that can fall into the engine compartment and contact hot exhaust components, raising the risk of fire.
The Takata airbag inflator recalls cover multiple model years and affect both the driver and passenger sides. On 2010-2014 models (coupe and cabriolet configurations are specifically noted), the passenger-side airbag inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin. The driver-side inflator on 2010-2011 models carries the same risk. These inflator recalls are tied to vehicles originally sold or registered in high-humidity states. On 2011-2014 coupe and cabriolet models, an incorrect passenger airbag may have been installed during a prior repair, meaning it may not perform properly in a crash. The 2014 model year has a narrow production window where the fuel feed line was built with an incorrect fitting that can loosen or disconnect and leak fuel. On 2010 models only, incorrect software loaded during a service visit can cause loss of drive power, reduced exterior lighting, or loss of stability and traction control.
Going back to 2013-2015, a rubber hood seal can drop into the engine bay and contact exhaust parts, creating a fire risk. On 2007-2009 E350 4Matic Wagon models, a connecting rod in the load-leveling rear suspension can fail and reduce the driver's ability to control the vehicle. The sunroof bonding on 2006-2009 models can deteriorate and allow the glass panel to detach from the vehicle while driving, becoming a hazard for other traffic. The 2006-2007 model years have a similar sunroof glass detachment risk tied to the panel's retention hardware.
