8 recalls across 3 model years
The Mercedes-Benz GLK250 has 8 recalls covering the 2013–2015 production run, with the most serious being a Takata passenger airbag inflator defect on 2013–2015 models where the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
Two separate airbag concerns affect these vehicles. The Takata inflator issue on 2013–2015 models is limited to vehicles sold or registered in high-humidity states and regions, and prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the problem across all affected vehicles. Separately, 2013–2015 models also have a driver airbag that can deploy without warning, raising the risk of injury and loss of vehicle control.
On the engine side, 2014–2015 diesel models can leak oil from the chain tensioner gasket area onto hot engine surfaces, creating a fire risk and leaving an oil slick on the road. The 2015 model year has a related but distinct oil leak concern affecting a slightly different production window with the same consequence.
The 2013–2014 models have a steering coupling bolt that may not have been tightened sufficiently, which can result in a complete loss of steering. The 2013 diesel model has a transmission concern where an incorrect fluid filter or overflow pipe installed during a prior service visit can cause a fluid leak or transmission control module failure, either of which can lead to a fire or an unexpected stall.
Across all three model years, a software fault in the emergency call system can cause the vehicle to report an incorrect location to emergency responders, potentially delaying help after a crash.
