2020 MERCEDES-BENZ GLS CLASS Recalls Canada & USA – Major League Recalls
2020 MERCEDES-BENZ GLS CLASS Recalls — Canada & USA
Summary
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS Class has 6 recalls, the most serious being a loose ground connection under the front passenger seat where wiring can overheat and melt, creating a fire risk.
A misrouted air conditioning drain hose can allow water to leak into the cabin and short out electrical components, potentially disabling door locks, knocking out the emergency call system, reducing engine power, or preventing the vehicle from starting. On the safety equipment side, the locking springs for the third-row seat backrest may not have been installed correctly, leaving the backrest free to move in a crash. There is also a label discrepancy on vehicles equipped with Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires, where the maximum pressure printed on the tire sidewall does not match the figure on the door placard and fuel cap, though this mismatch does not affect how safely the tires can be used.
On certain vehicles, the bolt for the 48 V ground connection under the passenger seat may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the wiring could overheat and melt.
Safety Risk
Wiring that overheats and melts can create the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, tighten the ground connection.
On certain vehicles, the air conditioning drain hose might be installed incorrectly. This could allow water to leak inside the vehicle. If this happens, electrical components could short circuit. This could affect different parts, such as the door locks and emergency call (eCall) system. It could also result in reduced engine power or cause the vehicle not to start.
Note: If this issue is present in your vehicle, you might notice wet carpets in the driver or passenger footwell and fogged windows. This is an expansion of Transport Canada Recall 2021-247.
Safety Risk
A loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. If the doors cannot be unlocked in an emergency situation, it may be difficult to exit the vehicle.
Remedy
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect how the air conditioning hose is installed and correct it, if necessary. Mercedes-Benz recommends that you should not use the air conditioning until the vehicle is inspected.
On certain vehicles, the springs that lock the backrest for the third-row seat may not have been installed correctly. As a result, the seat backrest may not fully lock in place.
Safety Risk
A seat backrest that isn't locked could move in a crash and increase the risk of injury.
Remedy
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the third-row seat, and replace the backrest if necessary. To reduce the safety risk, Mercedes-Benz recommends that you should not transport any passengers in the third-row seat until the recall repairs have been completed.
On certain vehicles equipped with Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires, the maximum tire pressure listed on the sidewall of the tire is lower than the maximum tire pressure specified on the tire loading and information label and on the gas tank cap. The placard lists a maximum pressure of 320 kPa (47 psi) instead of 300 kPa (44 psi). Canadian regulations require this information to be consistent on both the labels and tires.
Safety Risk
This error does not affect vehicle safety. Michelin has indicated that the tires can be operated safely up to a maximum pressure of 350 kPa (51 psi).
Remedy
This is not a recall. Mercedes-Benz has corrected the tire loading and information label on all new vehicles.
On certain vehicles, a ground connection under the front passenger seat may not have been properly tightened. As a result, the connection and wiring could overheat.
Safety Risk
A loose or overheated wire connection could create the risk of a fire.
