The 2006 Mercedes-Benz ML Class has 3 recalls, the most serious involving brake booster corrosion that can increase pedal effort and stopping distance, and in severe cases cause complete brake failure.

A corroded brake booster can force the driver to push much harder on the brake pedal to slow the vehicle, and if the corrosion is bad enough, the booster can separate entirely, leaving the driver with little to no braking ability. On the steering side, a hose clamp securing the power steering fluid cooler line may not grip tightly enough, allowing the hose to pull free and drain the power steering fluid. Losing that fluid can damage the power steering pump and strip away the assisted steering feel, making the wheel significantly harder to turn, particularly at low speeds or during parking. There is also a concern for owners who tow: trailer hitches on certain vehicles, whether fitted at the factory or installed later by a dealer, may have inadequate welds that can crack and fail over time, allowing a trailer to separate from the vehicle while in motion.
