The 2019 Mercedes-Benz SL 550 has 4 recalls, the most serious involving a bolt at the rear axle carrier that can fail over time, causing unexpected changes in handling and raising the risk of a crash.
The front passenger airbag carries its own concern: the airbag seam may have been improperly sewn, and if the bag deploys in a crash, that seam can tear and cause the airbag to perform poorly, leaving the passenger with less protection than intended. Two recalls address the automatic crash notification system, which is designed to contact emergency services and transmit the vehicle's location after a collision. In one case, the system can send the wrong location to emergency responders, and in another, the system can fail to make contact at all. Both failures mean that after a serious crash, help may be delayed or directed to the wrong place.
