Both airbag inflator recalls cover the same catastrophic failure mode: the inflator casing breaks apart during deployment rather than directing gas into the bag, turning the module itself into a hazard for anyone seated nearby. A third airbag-related recall concerns the airbag control unit, which was built without a reinforcement plate and protective bracket. Without those components in place, secondary airbags may not deploy in a crash, leaving occupants with less protection than the system is designed to provide. On the electronic safety side, this recall applies only to vehicles that have been upfitted as campers or recreational vehicles: the electronic stability control module can shut itself off, and without that system active, the van loses its ability to automatically correct slides or rollovers during hard cornering or evasive maneuvers, raising the risk of a crash.
