The 2010 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has 4 recalls, the most serious involving seatbelts on vehicles with an optional second-row bench seat that may not hold under crash forces, and an optional emergency exit window whose adhesive bond can loosen and allow the glass to separate from the vehicle while moving.
The seatbelt issue stems from the load limiter being mounted incorrectly, meaning the assembly cannot withstand the tension a crash places on it. The separating window poses a risk to other vehicles or pedestrians nearby. On Sprinter 3500 models, incorrect A-pillar interior trim may have been installed, meaning the trim along the front door frame may not absorb impact energy properly in a crash, raising the risk of head injury. On the mechanical side, a spring plate at the oil filler neck on Sprinter 2500 and 3500 models can crack and allow engine oil to leak, which can cause engine damage from low lubrication and leave slippery oil on the road surface.
