The 2009 Nissan Cube has 5 recalls, the most serious being a fuel system defect where a rear-end collision can cause fuel to leak in excess of safety limits, creating a fire risk if the fuel contacts an ignition source.
Two recalls address airbag issues. The driver's airbag inflator may not be properly welded to the steering wheel, so when the airbag deploys in a crash, the entire module can detach and strike the driver or other occupants. Separately, the passenger-side curtain airbag may have been mispositioned during assembly, which can prevent part of the bag from fully inflating during a side-impact crash and reduce protection for that occupant.
