The 2015 Nissan LEAF has 4 recalls, the most serious being a passenger frontal airbag that may fail to deploy in a crash, raising the risk of injury to the front passenger.
A separate but related concern involves the passenger seat occupancy sensor, which can also cause the frontal airbag not to deploy as intended. On the braking side, in very cold temperatures the electronic brake booster's internal relay can freeze, forcing the driver to push harder on the pedal and requiring more distance to stop the vehicle. There is also a documentation issue: the owner's manual contains incorrect instructions for operating the defroster, which under certain conditions can reduce windshield clearing and limit the driver's forward visibility.
