The 1999 Nissan Quest has 7 recalls, the most serious being two overlapping issues: a fuel tank that can separate from the vehicle or leak fuel and raise the risk of fire, and a steering rack that can work loose and make the van difficult to steer.
The fuel tank retention straps can break at their welds, allowing the tank to drop or spill fuel under the vehicle. On the steering side, mounting bolts that were not tightened to the correct specification can let the rack shift over time, with drivers noticing looseness, noise, or vibration at the wheel. Vehicles equipped with the E-Z Entry second-row captain's chair have a separate concern: the latch mechanism that allows the seat to slide forward for rear passenger access can lose its lubrication and eventually stick in the unlatched position, leaving the seat unsecured during a crash. There is also a lighting issue shared across two filings: the rear stop and tail light socket can lose its grip on the bulb, causing it to fall out and leave the brake and tail lights non-functional.
