44 recalls across 16 model years
The Nissan Quest has 44 recalls spanning the 1993–2012 production run, with the most serious recent issue being a defective battery on 1998 models where a fractured negative terminal can leak acid, corrode surrounding components, and trigger an engine fire or battery explosion.
The final production years carry a few notable issues. On 2011–2012 models, a software error in the fuel pump control can starve the engine of fuel when driving slowly or idling downhill with a near-empty tank, causing a stall. The 2008–2009 model years have a driver's airbag cover emblem that can crack and detach during deployment, sending a fragment into the cabin. On 2008 models with manually adjusted front seats, the seat track pawl may not fully engage, allowing the seat to shift in a crash.
The mid-2000s generation has several occupant safety concerns. On 2005 models, the third-row seat striker weld can break and allow the anchor to separate, reducing crash protection for rear passengers, and a driver's-side third-row curtain airbag may deploy late or abnormally due to misalignment during assembly. The 2004 model year has a power sliding door that can swing open unexpectedly during rapid acceleration in cold weather, a passenger seat occupant detection system that may fail to suppress the front airbag with a small child present, and a steering wheel airbag cover emblem on units that had their airbag replaced that can detach and become a projectile during deployment.
Going back further, 2001 models have a front seat belt buckle bolt that can loosen over time, leaving an occupant inadequately restrained in a crash. The 2000 model year has seat belt buckles that may not hold under crash loads. On 1999 models, the fuel tank retention straps can break at their spot welds, potentially dropping the tank or causing a fuel leak, and the rack-and-pinion steering gear mounting bolts may not have been fully tightened, leading to looseness and difficulty steering. The 1997 model shares the same defective battery issue as the 1998 model. On 1996 models, the power windows can operate after the ignition is off and the passenger door is opened, raising the risk of a child closing a window unsupervised. The 1995 model year has seat belt anchorage and seat latch concerns that could allow the third-row seat or its restraints to fail under crash loads. The 1994 model has rear lamp sockets where the metal contact can shift or separate, disabling the brake or tail light.
The 1993 model year carries the densest cluster of early recalls. Fuel filler hoses on some vehicles were nicked during shipping and can leak fuel near ignition sources. The fuel tank vent hose can also crack and leak fuel when the tank is overfilled and subsequently heated. Debris entering the heater and air conditioning intake through the cowl panel can accumulate near the blower motor resistor and ignite. The brake master cylinder on some 1993 vehicles was improperly assembled, causing internal leakage that can reduce braking on two of the four wheels. Front seat belt track bolts on 1993 models may not have been adequately tightened, weakening the restraint system's ability to hold an occupant in a collision.
