The 2001 Nissan Sentra has 11 recalls, the most serious being a wheel defect where cracks can develop between the cooling holes in the steel wheels and cause a wheel to completely separate from the vehicle while driving.
Front suspension control arm bolts on certain vehicles can fracture, which could cause a sudden loss of suspension geometry and steering control. There is also a ball joint bracket in the front suspension that can crack and break under stress. On the engine side, two separate recalls cover position sensors that can fail and cause the engine to stall without warning while driving, which raises the risk of a crash. Vehicles with the 1.8-liter engine are specifically named in one of those sensor recalls. A third engine-related recall involves the main engine control module, where foam inside the housing emits a gas that can corrode internal components, potentially causing starting problems or reduced power. Two compliance recalls cover missing tamperproof caps on the headlamp adjusters, which can allow the beam aim to shift out of alignment. One additional compliance recall applies to Canadian-market vehicles whose odometers display miles rather than the kilometers required by Canadian regulations.
