7 recalls across 2 model years
The Polestar 1 has 7 recalls covering the 2020–2021 model years, with the most serious being a high-voltage battery defect on both model years where the battery can overheat when fully charged, generating heat or smoke that can damage surrounding components and create a fire risk. An earlier software update was issued for some vehicles but did not fully resolve the issue, and those vehicles require the physical repair as well.
On the brake side, 2020 models have a fastener connecting the brake pedal to the brake booster that can be improperly assembled, allowing the pedal to detach entirely and leaving the driver with no braking ability. Also on 2021 models, the rear seat belt automatic locking retractors can deactivate too early, preventing a child safety seat from being secured properly in a crash. On 2020 models equipped with the 360-degree park assist camera, a software fault can cause the top-view camera image to appear instead of the rearview image when reversing, reducing the driver's visibility behind the vehicle.
