The 2021 Polestar 1 has 4 recalls, the most serious being a high-voltage battery that can overheat when fully charged, creating a risk of smoke, heat damage to nearby components, and fire.
The battery fire risk has been the subject of multiple repair attempts, and vehicles that received an earlier software update still require an additional hardware repair to fully address the issue. On the occupant safety side, the rear seatbelt automatic locking retractors can deactivate earlier than they should, which prevents a child safety seat from being held firmly in place. A child restraint that is not properly secured can shift or come loose in a crash, raising the risk of injury to a child passenger.
