14 recalls across 5 model years
The Polestar 2 has 14 recalls covering 2021 through 2025 model years, with the most serious being a brake software defect on 2024 models where the brakes can stop responding under certain conditions, raising the risk of a crash. A related braking issue affects 2021 through 2024 models: when coasting downhill using One Pedal Drive, the vehicle can lose brake function entirely. Both issues were addressed through software updates.
On 2023 models, the left-front lower ball joint can be incorrectly installed in the steering knuckle, allowing the control arm to disconnect and causing an immediate loss of steering control. Two high-voltage battery control module recalls affect 2021 and 2022 models: the module's microprocessor can reset and disconnect the high-voltage system while driving, cutting power to the wheels without warning.
The 2024 model year also has two occupant safety issues. The driver's seat mounting bolts may not have been tightened properly, allowing the seat to shift or detach in a crash. The driver's side far-side airbag module has improperly crimped clamps that can cause the airbag to deploy incorrectly, reducing its ability to protect the driver.
Rearview camera failures appear across much of the production run. On 2021 through 2025 models, a software problem can prevent the camera image from appearing when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. On 2021 models specifically, the camera can also display the wrong view rather than the rear image, and an earlier repair attempt for this issue proved ineffective on some vehicles, requiring a second fix.
The only remaining recall covers 2021 models and involves a tire and loading information label that omits French-language text as required by Canadian regulations, with no safety consequence.
