The 2020 Polestar 1 has 5 recalls, the most serious being two critical safety defects: the high-voltage battery can overheat when fully charged and catch fire, and the brake pedal can detach from the brake booster, causing complete loss of braking.
The battery fire risk and the brake pedal separation each represent a severe hazard. Prior repair attempts on the battery overheating issue did not fully resolve the problem, which is why multiple recall filings address it. On the visibility side, a software fault on vehicles equipped with the 360-degree park assist camera can cause the top-view camera image to appear on screen instead of the rearview image when reversing, reducing the driver's ability to see directly behind the vehicle.
