The 2020 Polestar 1 has 5 recalls, the most serious being a high-voltage battery that can overheat when fully charged, creating a fire risk and potentially damaging surrounding components. A separate brake concern affects certain vehicles where the fastener connecting the brake pedal to the brake booster may not have been properly assembled, allowing the pedal to detach entirely and leaving the driver with no braking ability. On vehicles equipped with the optional 360-degree park assist camera, a software fault can cause the top-view overhead image to appear instead of the rearview image when reversing, reducing visibility behind the car.
