The 2020 Polestar 1 has 5 recalls, the most serious being a high-voltage battery that can overheat when fully charged, creating a risk of smoke, heat damage to surrounding components, and fire.
The brake system also carries a serious concern: a fastener connecting the brake pedal to the brake booster may not have been properly assembled, which can cause the pedal to detach entirely from the booster. If that happens, the driver loses the ability to apply the brakes in a normal way, sharply raising the risk of a crash. On the camera side, a software fault on vehicles equipped with the 360-degree park assist system can cause the top-view overhead camera to appear on the screen instead of the rearview image when reversing, reducing the driver's ability to see directly behind the vehicle while backing up.
