2004 Saturn Ion

The 2004 Saturn Ion has 4 recalls, the most serious being a fuel leak risk on Red Line models with the supercharged 2.0L engine, where a cracked fuel feed pipe near the fuel rail can leak fuel and create a fire hazard.

The remaining three recalls cover ignition and steering concerns. The ignition recall affects a broad range of GM vehicles from this era: the key can be removed from the ignition before it reaches the off position, meaning the steering column can lock and the engine may shut off unexpectedly while driving. For vehicles with automatic transmissions, this also raises the risk of a rollaway if the transmission is not confirmed to be in park before the key comes out. On the steering side, the electric power steering system can suddenly drop its assist without warning at any point while driving. When this happens, the steering wheel becomes significantly harder to turn, especially at low speeds or in parking situations, and a warning message appears on the instrument display along with an audible chime. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this issue, which is why two separate steering recalls remain open for the Ion.
