The 2017 Subaru Outback has 5 recalls, the most serious involving front brake calipers, wheel hubs, and a stabilizer clamp with bolts that may loosen or detach, making the vehicle unstable and potentially causing a loss of control.
A separate chassis recall covers a steering column that may have been improperly machined, which can cause the steering wheel to turn with no effect on the direction of the front wheels. On the restraint side, an airbag control module replacement on certain vehicles may be incompatible with the passenger airbag, causing it to fail to deploy properly in a crash. There are also two related recalls involving the driver's knee guard bracket, which may not be properly welded or attached to the steering beam; in a frontal crash where the driver is not wearing a seatbelt, the bracket can fail to restrain the driver's lower body as intended.
