The 1996 Toyota Camry has 4 recalls, the most serious being a steering wheel that may not be properly secured, causing vibration and looseness that can lead to a loss of vehicle control.
Two other recalls affect certain trim configurations. On Camry Plus models with the Extra Value Package installed at port of entry, the wheel lug nut seating surfaces may be machined incorrectly, meaning the torque holding the wheels in place can loosen over time. On vehicles with aftermarket seat heaters, the copper heating element can short circuit and start a fire if the element is damaged. On the lighting side, the plastic bulb holders in the rear tail light assembly lack sufficient heat resistance and can deform from the heat of normal use, causing the bulb to lose contact and the tail light to go dark.
