The 2002 Toyota Camry has 7 recalls, the most serious being aftermarket seat heaters that can short circuit and cause a fire.
Several recalls involve the airbag system. On vehicles with a three-spoke steering wheel, the driver's airbag cover can tear away from the module during deployment and strike the driver. On vehicles equipped with curtain shield airbags, the bag can be twisted near the inflator and fail to fully inflate in a side collision, leaving occupants without adequate head protection. There is also a separate concern where the front passenger airbag may not deploy completely in a crash, reducing its ability to protect the occupant. One additional recall covers vehicles that had tires replaced at the port in Jacksonville, Florida: the replacement tires carry a lower speed rating than the vehicle requires, and pushing past that rating can lead to tire failure.
