The 2004 Toyota Corolla has 9 recalls, the most serious being a Takata airbag inflator defect where the passenger-side frontal airbag can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
Multiple recalls address this same airbag inflator problem across different filing periods, and one additional recall covers vehicles where a prior replacement airbag may fail to inflate properly under high heat, leaving occupants without full protection in a crash. There is also a separate airbag concern where the frontal airbags or seatbelt pretensioners can deploy unexpectedly without a crash, raising the risk of injury. On the wheel side, factory aluminum alloy wheels on some vehicles have lug nut holes that were over-drilled, which can allow the lug nuts to work loose over time and the wheel to separate from the hub entirely. Some vehicles equipped with aftermarket heated seats face a fire risk if the copper heating element shorts out. On the visibility side, door glass mounting bolts on power window-equipped vehicles can loosen and fall out, causing the glass to bind or shatter when the window is operated.
