The 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser has 6 recalls, the most serious involving tires that can develop a sidewall bulge and lose air pressure, potentially causing loss of vehicle control.
A separate recall affects vehicles with aftermarket heated seats installed by Southeast Toyota distributors: the copper heating element can short circuit and start a fire. On the structural side, two related recalls cover the same issue with the rear access door panels, which house the front seatbelt retractors. Slamming those doors repeatedly over time can crack the panel, allowing the retractor to pull free and leave the seatbelt unable to restrain an occupant in a crash. There is also a lighting recall for vehicles fitted with Toyota auxiliary driving lamps on the front bumper: the lights can exceed the maximum legal brightness and cause glare that reduces visibility for oncoming drivers.
