The 2022 Toyota Highlander has 6 recalls, the most serious involving second-row seat backs that may fail to lock in position and could allow an occupant to be thrown forward in a crash.
On the tire side, certain vehicles fitted with 20-inch wheels as part of a Blackout Package or accessory tire installation received tires with a load rating too low for the vehicle's weight, meaning the tires can fail under load. There is also a concern on Highlander Hybrid models where electronic stability control software can deactivate the system without the driver knowing, reducing the vehicle's ability to stay on course in a skid or emergency maneuver. The front lower bumper cover can come loose during minor contact and detach, becoming a hazard for other drivers on the road. A label recall affecting certain vehicles notes that load capacity stickers can fade and become unreadable, which may lead to unintentional overloading.
