TOYOTA RAV4 PRIME Recalls

The Toyota RAV4 Prime has 7 recalls covering the 2021-2022 model years, with the most serious being a DC-DC converter under the rear seat on 2021 models that can overheat and create a fire risk in the vehicle. Two other 2021 recalls involve the hybrid powertrain shutting down unexpectedly in cold weather when the driver rapidly accelerates while in EV mode, cutting power to the wheels and raising the risk of a crash. These represent the same underlying stall behavior filed separately, addressed through a software update to the hybrid control unit. The 2022 model year has a front passenger seat assembly issue where internal parts interfere with the passenger seat sensor, causing it to misread the occupant. On certain 2022 vehicles equipped with an 8-way power front passenger seat with a seat lifter, this misreading can cause the airbag system to suppress the front passenger airbag even when an adult is seated, reducing crash protection. Across 2021 models, headlight aiming caps were not properly closed at the factory, allowing the horizontal beam angle to shift and either reduce the driver's forward visibility or direct glare toward oncoming traffic.
