The 2022 Toyota Tacoma has 3 recalls, the most serious being an axle shaft that can separate from the housing, causing reduced braking performance and loss of vehicle stability. When the axle retaining nuts loosen and detach, the driver may notice noise, vibration, or a differential oil leak before the shaft separates entirely, and stopping distances can increase significantly. There is also a child safety concern: one or more welds on the upper child seat anchors may be insufficient, which can allow a child seat to shift or pull free during a hard stop or crash.
