The 2000 Toyota Tundra has 5 recalls, the most serious being frame corrosion that can cause the spare tire to drop from under the truck bed and can reduce rear braking ability, raising the risk of a crash. This corrosion recall applies to vehicles registered or originally sold in states with heavy road salt use. On the lighting side, the plastic bulb socket in the rear combination lamps may not hold the brake or tail light bulb securely, and the bulb can fall out and leave the light non-functional. There is also a labeling recall affecting certain 4x2 models with an alloy wheel and tire upgrade: the spare tire was not marked as a temporary-use spare, which means a driver may not realize it handles differently from a standard tire if pressed into use.
