The 2017 Volkswagen Beetle has 3 recalls, the most serious involving the driver's side frontal airbag inflator, which can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, risking serious injury or death.
A separate recall covers vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, manual handbrake, and keyless entry: the ignition system allows the key to be removed while the gear selector is not in Park, which can lead to an unintended rollaway. Without the key present, the steering may also lock, leaving the vehicle difficult to steer or stop. The third recall is a labeling issue on certain vehicles where the tire information placard displays incorrect load figures. If a driver follows the inaccurate label and overloads the vehicle, handling can be affected and tires may sustain damage, raising the risk of a crash.
