The 2010 Volkswagen CC has 4 recalls, the most serious being a defective driver's frontal airbag inflator that can rupture or explode on deployment, sending metal fragments into the cabin and raising the risk of serious injury.
The remaining recalls also touch on airbag reliability and engine performance. Debris can contaminate the airbag clock spring, the coiled cable that keeps the driver's airbag powered while the steering wheel turns. If that connection is lost, the airbag will not deploy in a crash, removing a key layer of occupant protection. On the engine side, an interruption of electrical power to the fuel pump control module can cause the fuel pump to cut out entirely, stalling the engine without warning and raising the risk of a crash.
