The 2007 Volkswagen Touareg has 5 recalls, the most serious being a fuel leak risk where the fuel pump or fuel filter flange can crack and allow gasoline to escape, raising the risk of a fire.
The fuel flange issue covers gasoline-powered models and involves hairline cracks that can form in the plastic flange where the fuel pump or filter connects to the tank. Fuel that escapes through those cracks can pool near hot engine components or other ignition sources and ignite. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why multiple filings address the same underlying problem.
The other recall involves the roof edge spoiler. The fastening struts that hold the spoiler to the roofline can crack over time, causing the spoiler to loosen and eventually detach while the vehicle is moving. Because this can happen without obvious warning, even a spoiler that feels firmly attached may not be secure. A detached spoiler can strike pedestrians or cyclists nearby, or land in the road and become a hazard for following traffic.
