The 2013 Volvo S80 has 3 recalls, the most serious involving the front seatbelts, which may not properly secure an occupant and raise the risk of injury in a crash.
A software error in the tire pressure monitoring system causes a "TPMS Service Required" warning to appear after about 15 minutes of highway driving, effectively disabling the system and leaving the driver without any alert if a tire loses pressure. An underinflated tire can overheat and blow out. On the drivetrain side, a separate software error in the transmission control module can prevent the automatic transmission from downshifting when coasting, which may cause engine RPMs to drop too low and the engine to stall unexpectedly.
