The 2002 Volvo VN has 5 recalls, the most serious being two that can cause a crash without warning: a drive axle seat that can break and allow the axle to shift out of alignment, and a fifth wheel latch that can release a trailer unexpectedly while the parking brake is engaged.
On the engine side, the pre-heater wiring harness was assembled incorrectly on some trucks, causing the pre-heater to overheat and potentially damage nearby components to the point where the engine cannot be restarted. Two recalls address the center passenger seatbelt on trucks equipped with bench seats: the weld securing the seatbelt's upper mounting bracket may not be strong enough, meaning the belt can fail to hold the occupant in a crash.
