The 2006 Volvo VN has 5 recalls, the most serious involving multiple risks of wheel separation: aluminum wheels that can develop cracks and fail, and rear drive axle spindles that can fracture while moving, both of which can cause sudden loss of control.
There is also a concern on trucks equipped with an air-release fifth wheel hitch, where a brake valve can corrode and cause the fifth wheel's locking mechanism to open unintentionally, potentially releasing a trailer while underway. On the safety equipment side, the seatbelt d-ring anchor weld on trucks with bench passenger seats may not be strong enough to hold under crash forces, allowing the belt to pull free and leaving the passenger unrestrained.
