The 2021 Volvo VN has 3 recalls, the most serious affecting trucks with a Cummins X15d engine, where a software fault can invert the throttle signal so the engine refuses to return to idle, raising the risk of a crash.
On certain trucks, the Bendix electronic control unit can misread commands or stop working entirely due to electrical interference, which can strip out safety systems including anti-lock brakes, automatic traction control, electronic stability control, active cruise control, and the collision mitigation system all at once. There is also a seating concern: the passenger-side bench seat may not be securely fastened to the floor, and in a crash the attachment points can give way and allow the seat to shift, increasing the risk of injury to anyone seated there.
