The 2022 Volvo VN has 6 recalls, the most serious involving engine, throttle, and steering failures that can each result in loss of vehicle control and a crash.
On the engine and throttle side, an idler gear inside the engine can detach and cause the engine to stall, and a separate issue with throttle sensor communication can trigger sudden unintended acceleration when the truck is already in a reduced-power state. The steering system also has a concern: incorrectly assembled steering gears can fracture and cause complete loss of steering. On the safety systems side, electrical interference can disrupt the main control unit that manages anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, adaptive cruise, and collision mitigation, potentially reducing or eliminating those functions without warning. The passenger-side bench seat may not be securely anchored to the floor, which can allow it to shift in a crash. On sleeper cab trims, interior cabinets may be missing required hardware and can break loose in a crash, posing a risk to anyone in the cabin.
