The 2025 Volvo VN has 12 recalls, the most serious being multiple steering failures that can cause sudden, complete loss of steering control, along with a wheel that can detach while driving.
Several recalls cover steering components: ball studs in the tie rod assemblies and drag link can fail and separate from the vehicle, becoming road hazards, and the electric power steering gear can lose assist due to an unseated plug in the valve housing. A separate software issue can cause the oversteer guidance system to turn the steering wheel on its own rather than correcting a skid. On the drivetrain side, loose fasteners on the turbo idler gear bracket can allow the idler gear to detach and damage the engine, causing a stall and loss of drive power. There is also an electrical concern: power cables that were improperly routed can short, leading to an engine stall or a fire. A recall covering the Bendix electronic control unit addresses a situation where electrical interference can cause anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, and collision mitigation to reduce in effectiveness or stop working entirely. Rounding out the list, trailer lighting problems can leave the truck's brake and turn signals invisible to following drivers, and a separate issue can prevent the anti-lock brake warning light from alerting the driver to a trailer ABS fault.
