The 2007 Volvo VNM has 6 recalls, with the most serious being a fifth wheel coupling that may not latch securely around the trailer king pin, creating a risk that the trailer could detach while driving.
Two recalls involve the axle housing, which may have been built with steel that is thinner than required and can crack over time, causing the axle to lock up or break free from the vehicle entirely. A separate driveshaft recall covers trucks with ArvinMeritor RPL20 high-angle interaxle driveshafts, where a missing or improperly seated snap ring can cause a joint component to fracture and shed driveline parts onto the road. On the fuel system side, a short circuit in the diesel fuel filter heater can cause the heating element to stay on and, if the filter runs dry, produce an open flame at the element tip, raising the risk of a vehicle fire. There is also a steering concern: a retaining nut on the steering shaft may not have the locking feature required to stay in place, and if it loosens, the shaft can separate and leave the driver with no steering control.
