THE FRONT AIR BRAKE HOSE MAY CONTACT THE INNER FENDER ON THE LEFT AN/OR RIGHT SIDE POSSIBLY CAUSING THE BRAKE HOSE TO RUB THROUGH. THIS WOULD CAUSE A LOSS OF AIR PRSSURE UPON BRAKE APPLICATION AND A REDUCTION OF BRAKING ABILITY. THIS COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
VEHICLES WERE PRODUCED WITHOUT HEAT SHIELDS INTENDED FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER OUTLET PIPES. AFTER SOME TYPES OF SEVERE HEAVY USAGE, THE SURFACE TEMPERATURES OF THE EXPOSED OUTLET PIPES COULD BECOME UNUSUALLY HIGH. IF THIS SHOULD OCCUR AND CERTAIN TYPES OF GROUND COVER WERE TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE OUTLET PIPE, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE GROUND COVER COULD IGNITE AND RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE. (VEHICLES WITH OPTIONAL POLICE PACKAGES EQUIPED WITH 5.0 LITRE FUEL INJECTED HIGH OUTPUT ENGINES).
THERE ARE TWO DEFECTS IN THIS RECALL. 1. THE CIRCUITRY CONTACT PIECE IN THE HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH COULD BECOME DISLOCATED CAUSING THE HEADLAMP TO FAIL. SUDDEN LOSS OF ILLUMINATION DURING NIGHT TIME OPERATION COULD REULT IN AN ACCIDENT. 2. INSUFFICIENT GREASE ON THE REAR WHEEL NEEDLE BEARING COULD CAUSE WHEEL BEARING FAILURE AND REAR WHEEL LOCK-UP. THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND VEHICLE CRASH.
THE REAR SEAT BELT RETRACTORS MAY ALLOW TWISTED WEBBING TO ENTER THE RETRACTOR HOUSING. TWISTED WEBBING MAY WEDGE BETWEEN THE RETRACTOR SPOOL AND HOUSING PRODUCING A JAMMED RETRACTOR CONDITION WHICH INTERFERED WITH WEBBING RETRACTION AND WITHDRAWAL.
THE TANDEM POWER BRAKE BOOSTER REAR SHELLS MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITH REDUCED WALL THICKNESSES. REPEATED BRAKE APPLICATIONS COULD CAU SE SUCH A SHELL TO CRACK AND THE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY TO COME APART.THIS COULD RESULT IN A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILTY WITHOUT PRIOR WARN ING AND PRESENT THE POSSIBILITY FOR LOSS OF CONTROL AND VEHICLE CRAS H.
THE FLEXIBLE FUEL HOSE LOCATED BETWEEN THE INJECTOR FUEL RAIL AND THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR MAY RUPTURE. THE HOSE MAY HAVE BEEN TURNED OUT OF ITS CORRECT POSITION WHEN BEING TIGHTENED DURING FINAL VEHICLE ASSEMBLY. A SHARP BEND OR TWIST IN THE HOSE NEAR ONE OF ITS END FITTINGS COULD LEAD TO HOSE RUPTURE WITH FUEL LEAKAGE CREATING A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD.

SEDANS AND WAGONS LOCATED IN ONTARIO, QUEBEC, NEW BRUNSWICK, NOVA SCOTIA, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND AND NEWFOUNDLAND. SALT INDUCED CORROSION OF THE STEERING IDLER ARM PIN MAY GRADUALLY DEVELOP HARD OR STIFF STEERING OPERATION OR POOR STEERING RETURN. RESULTING PROGRESSIVELY HARDER STEERING EFFORT COULD ULTIMATELY CAUSE THE DISINTIGRATION OF THE IDLER ARM PIN. THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND POSSIBLE VEHICLE CRASH.
VEHICLES WITH 1.9L ENGINE AND AIR CONDITIONING.
A PIN LOCATED ON THE THROTTLE LEVER WHICH ACTUATES THE AIR-CONDITIONER SHUT-OFF SWITCH MAY BE SUBJECT TO MISALIGNMENT SUCH THAT THE SWITCH COULD JAM BEHIND THE ACTUATING ARM OF THE SWITCH. IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, THE THROTTLE LEVER WOULD BE PREVENTED FROM RETURNING TO THE IDLE POSITION AND VEHICLE CONTROL COULD BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED.
THE REAR BUMPER MAY FRACTURE DURING A REAR END COLLISION, PUNCTURE THE FUEL TANK AND CAUSE A FUEL LEAK. SHOULD THIS OCCUR, THE POSSIBILITY OF A FIRE WOULD EXIST WHICH WOULD CAUSE BURN INJURIES TO PERSONS IN OR NEAR THE VEHICLE.
THE ALTERNATOR TO STARTER CABLE MAY RUB AGAINST THE BRAKE FLUID PIPE ATTACHED TO THE LEFT INNER WHEELHOUSE IN THE ENGINE COMPART- MENT. RUBBING MAY EVENTUALLY DAMAGE THE CABLE INSULATION CREATING A RISK OF SHORT CIRCUIT AND UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, A POSSIBLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE.
4X4 VEHICLES WITH 2.3L ENGINES AND ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION. THE NYLON FUEL SUPPLY AND RETURN LINES MAY BE IMPROPERLY ROUTED ALONG THE FRAME SIDE RAIL. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, A MISROUTED LINE COULD MOVE OUT OF ITS INSTALLED POSITION AND COME IN CONTACT WITH A UNIVERSAL JOINT ON THE FRONT DRIVE-SHAFT. SUCH CONTACT COULD RESULT IN ABRASION OF THE LINES AND EVENTUAL LOW PRESSURE FUEL LEAKAGE. IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE FIRE WOULD EXIST.
CAVALIER AND SUNBIRD WITH 2L ENGINES
THE ENGINE AIR CLEANER PLASTIC TRIM COVER MAY BECOME DETACHED FROM THE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY AND FALL FORWARD ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. SHOULD THIS OCCUR WHILE THE ENGINE IS BEING OPERATED, AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
THE FUEL SUPPLY HOSE TO THE PRESSURE DAMPER IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT MAY DEVELOP A LEAK BETWEEN THE FLEX HOSE AND THE THREADED CONNECTOR DUE TO IMPROPER CRIMPING OF THE FITTING. THIS WILL CAUSE THE FUEL PRESSURE IN THE INJECTION SYSTEM TO DROP, RESULTING IN ENGINE STALLING. A STALLED VEHICLE COULD POSE A THREAT TO TRAFFIC SAFETY.
DEFECTIVE ELECTRONIC MODULES MAY CAUSE A MALFUNCTION IN THE ELECTRICAL AIR SUSPENSION CIRCUITRY. IF THIS OCCURS, A POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE TO OCCUR.
