11 recalls across 11 model years
The Audi A4 Allroad has 11 recalls spanning 2013 through 2023, with the most serious being a fire risk on 2013-2016 models where the auxiliary heater's electrical connector can corrode, causing the heater wiring to overheat and melt. A separate but related fire risk affects the same 2013-2016 model years: vehicles equipped with the 2.0L turbocharged engine have an electric coolant pump that can become blocked with debris or short-circuit, overheat, and start a fire.
On the 2023 model year, a software error in the front passenger seat sensor can incorrectly classify an adult occupant as a child or empty seat, causing the passenger airbag to be deactivated and leaving that occupant unprotected in a crash. The 2022 model year has a rearview camera that can stop displaying an image, reducing rear visibility when backing up.
The 2017-2018 model years have a cluster of airbag-related issues. A mounting screw on the passenger airbag module may not have been tightened enough, which can cause the bag to deploy incorrectly in a crash. Separately, corrosion on the passenger occupant detection system's connecting cable can cause the software to disable the passenger airbag entirely. The 2017 model year also has a side marker light issue where a software update can inadvertently make those lights inoperative, reducing the vehicle's visibility to other drivers at night. On the interior, aluminum trim around the door speakers on 2017-2018 models can work loose and expose sharp edges that can cut occupants.
On 2020-2021 models, rear axle misalignment can cause uneven or accelerated tire wear, which raises the risk of a crash. Going back to 2017, airbags and seatbelt pretensioners may not deploy or function correctly in a crash due to a separate wiring or control issue affecting that model year.
