19 recalls across 10 model years
The Audi SQ5 has 19 recalls spanning the 2014 through 2025 model years, with the most serious being a brake master cylinder defect on 2018–2019 models where the cylinder can fail entirely, causing a sudden and complete loss of hydraulic braking with only the parking brake remaining functional.
The 2025 model year has a recall for front seatbelt pretensioners that were manufactured incorrectly and may fail to hold occupants in a crash. On 2020 models, front seat frame welds can break in a rear-end collision, allowing the seatback to collapse and reduce occupant protection. The 2021 model year has a rear seatbelt retractor that can leave a child restraint unsecured, and a rearview camera that can go blank while reversing.
The 2018–2022 model years have a recurring issue with the gateway control module, which sits in an area vulnerable to liquid from rear seat spills or water entering through body seams underneath the vehicle. When the module shuts down, the engine loses power suddenly while driving. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this issue, and the remedy was expanded to cover the broader 2018–2022 range after an initial fix addressed only 2018 vehicles. Separately on the chassis side, 2020–2021 models have a rear axle lock nut that can break and misalign the rear axle, causing loss of control, and the same years carry a related recall where that misalignment causes premature or uneven tire wear. The 2019 model year has a recall for an instrument panel carrier weld that can break during a frontal crash, potentially damaging the passenger airbag and reducing its effectiveness. On 2018 models, brake caliper pistons with insufficient coating can reduce braking performance. The 2022 SQ5 Sportback has a single-vehicle recall for a rear lid with improperly joined metal sheets that reduces crash protection.
Going back to the earliest production years, 2014–2015 models have an electric power steering system that can shut down in cold temperatures, requiring significantly more steering effort at low speeds. The 2018–2019 model years also have wheel arch cover trim that can loosen and detach while driving, creating a road hazard for other vehicles.
