1992 Buick Century

The 1992 Buick Century has 3 recalls, the most serious being a faulty optional remote entry module that can randomly release the tailgate while the car is moving, allowing an unbelted rear passenger to fall out of the vehicle.

The remote entry module defect can also randomly trigger the interior lights and door locks without any input from the driver, whether the car is being driven or sitting unattended. On the drivetrain side, a transmission component called the reverse servo apply pin can stick or bind inside the transmission case, producing several possible failures: the transmission may lose reverse entirely, slip in reverse, drag in drive and rob the engine of power, or stay physically engaged in reverse while the shift indicator reads neutral. In that last scenario, the vehicle can roll backward unexpectedly when the driver believes it is in neutral, raising the risk of a collision.
