The 2000 Buick Regal has two recalls, the more serious being a rear brake spindle rod bolt that can snap and allow the rear wheel to shift position, causing the car to veer without warning and raising the risk of a crash. On vehicles with rear drum brakes, a rattling sound from the rear suspension can signal that the bolt head is already separating. If the remaining bolt breaks entirely, the wheel can move out of alignment and steer the car unexpectedly. The second recall is a compliance issue affecting Canadian-market vehicles: a calibration error in the onboard diagnostics system can trigger a false evaporative emissions fault code, causing the check engine light to illuminate even when no actual emissions problem exists.
