The 1992 Buick Skylark has 4 recalls, the most serious being a steering column that can lock up without warning while the vehicle is moving, causing an immediate loss of steering control.
This steering lock risk applies to column-shift models, where both a misadjusted park lock cable in the column shift assembly and the broader column design can allow the steering to seize if the ignition is turned off while the car is still in gear and rolling. There is also a rear suspension concern: an incorrect spring seat at the right-rear corner can allow the wheel house flange to cut through the fuel tank filler pipe in a rear-end collision, spilling fuel and raising the risk of fire. On the interior side, the front passenger seat's easy-entry adjuster can fail to fully lock after the seatback has been folded forward and the seat repositioned, leaving the seat free to slide forward in a hard stop or crash.
