1994 Buick Skylark

The 1994 Buick Skylark has 3 recalls, the most serious being two separate fire risks: welds in the rear floor pan that can fail in a rear-end collision and allow fuel to leak, and an ignition switch that can overheat and catch fire near the steering column.

The rear pan weld issue means that in a rear-impact crash, the structure meant to protect the fuel tank may give way, allowing fuel to escape and increasing the chance of a post-collision fire. The ignition switch problem is unrelated to crash conditions: over time, more electrical current than the switch was designed to handle flows through it, gradually damaging the switch until it can ignite and spread fire through the surrounding interior. Both concerns involve fire risk, but one is triggered by a collision while the other can develop from ordinary driving use.
