The 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has 7 recalls, the most serious involving the roof rail curtain airbags, where the inflator end cap or sidewall can rupture and send metal fragments or compressed gas into the cabin.
On the brake side, two separate issues affect stopping performance. A faulty sensor in the driveline-protection system on trucks equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, 3.08-ratio rear axle, and four-wheel drive can trigger unintended braking on one side of the vehicle, causing it to pull sharply to one side without warning. Separately, the mechanical vacuum pump that powers the brake booster can lose output over time, which causes the brake pedal to require noticeably more force and extends the distance needed to bring the vehicle to a stop.
