The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado has 6 recalls, the most serious including a tie rod that can separate from the steering rack causing total loss of steering, an ignition that can snap back to the accessory position cutting engine and brake power, and a transmission oil line that can leak fluid onto hot surfaces and start a fire.
The transfer case can shift itself into neutral without driver input due to an electrical short, which can allow the truck to roll away when parked without the parking brake applied. On the safety equipment side, the driver's seatbelt tensioner cable can be pinched and worn through during normal entry into the vehicle, and if it separates, the belt may not hold the driver properly in a crash. A software issue affecting vehicles with a base radio and internal amplifier can silence the door-ajar chime, leaving the driver without an audible warning that the door is open while the key is in the ignition, which can also contribute to an unintended rollaway.
