The 2008 Dodge Avenger has 4 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk on all-wheel drive models where the fuel tank straps can separate, allowing the tank to loosen and leak fuel onto hot underbody components.
The airbag system also has a concern: the sensors built into the front seat tracks that help the airbag system gauge how far forward a seat is positioned may not work correctly, which can cause the airbags to deploy with the wrong force in a crash and raise the risk of injury to front occupants. On the door hardware side, the interior release handle cable on either front door can slip partially out of its housing, causing the latch to stick in the unlatched position or the door lock to stop working. A door that cannot fully latch can swing open while driving, putting an unbelted occupant at serious risk of being ejected.
