The 1993 Dodge Caravan has 5 recalls, with three serious issues involving airbags that can deploy without warning, a steering wheel that can physically separate from the steering column, and wheels that can detach while driving.

A wiring short in the airbag system can trigger the driver or passenger airbag to fire the moment the ignition is turned on, injuring anyone seated in front. On certain vans equipped with 2-spoke luxury or 4-spoke sport wheels, the steering wheel armature can crack and break away from the hub, leaving the driver with no steering input. Separately, 15-inch wheels on some vehicles have a malformed lug nut seat that prevents the nuts from seating correctly, allowing a wheel to come loose and separate from the vehicle. The rear liftgate latch can also open in a collision, creating a risk that occupants could be ejected from the back of the vehicle.
